Get it written down. They want that level work without that level pay. Don’t let it become more abusive than work already is. Do your old job for your old pay until they decide to either hire someone else to underpay or give you the Metallica Sad But True Poster Shirt besides I will buy this raise that your new job entails. be comfortable with the fact that they’ll probably leave you in role where you’re the team lead in role only for probably a couple years. You’ll do all the shit, and get all the flak as if you were in charge, but just not the pay or benefits associated with it. They’ll leave you there until forced to change, you quit, or until 4-5yrs goes by and it starts to become embarrassing. but probably just never, they’ll wait until you quit, then do the same thing to someone else. Once the precedent is set that they don’t need to pay someone lead hand wage, they just won’t, it’ll just become part of the budget to be that way. call their bluff, “I’m interested in the role, and I think I have the skills. I think I’ve been here long enough to prove to you that I’m the man for the job, and I think thats why you’ve come to the same conclusion already, but if I’m going to be the team lead, I need to be paid as such. I’m either the lead, or I’m not” they’ll either give you the money, title and advance you, or they’ll pick someone else.

Tell them you will due it for a minimum fixed bonus at the Metallica Sad But True Poster Shirt besides I will buy this intern manager, that is roughly per pay period the difference between current salary and the lower end for a manager. Since you will be working a lot more hours. Then if they don’t give it to you. You still have the extra pay for your effort. They will be saving a ton of money while the position is not filled. So the budget is there. If they will not give you a decent portion of that. Otherwise the fact they want you to work longer hours and a harder job for zero addition pay is pure exploitation. I did not have a boss for over a year. Me and my Co-worker did 90% of the job. Worked a lot of extra hours. Yet pay time got no extra bonus. Just got a Pathetic bonus that with my pay raise was only a cost of living increase. If they have given use even 20% of what they saved in the budget we would of been happy. I’ve done that song and dance a few times. Sure, you may find a promotion out of it eventually. But if they think they can walk all over you, they will continue doing it. I personally think it’s immoral to ask someone to take on more responsibility for no extra pay. Employers already hold enough power over us as it is already. It’s fucked up that they know they can get away with treating employees with such disrespect.
