EDIT: At least try to explain the Merry Catmas Christmas Shirt Besides,I will do this language. Not everyone can learn the same way. I for example learn much better with a teacher/getting some help from someone else than trying to learn myself. It would be nice to be able to hope that. I am 100% behind the ability to ask “What does ABCDE stand for?”. I’ve said that multiple times now in responses here…. because it seems like most of the people commenting to me won’t even acknowledge that they *could* indeed just ask the person who used the acronym to explain it. It would be nice indeed to have a community that was more inclusive. I think that when one reads through many of the posts here, and the comments that go along with them…. they would come to the conclusion that the community isn’t necessarily all that inclusive right now, and due to the nature of Reddit in general, it isn’t likely to ever become more inclusive. The fact that I present an argument where BOTH sides here have to take each other into account is balked at, and demonstrates that the people wanting more inclusion, aren’t any more open-minded than the people they think should explain their acronyms. Should commenters and posters be more willing to explain acronyms they use? Yes. Should readers be more willing to look up those words and acronyms they don’t understand? Yes.

The fact that the Merry Catmas Christmas Shirt Besides,I will do this acronym LMGTFY exists… and that stands for Let Me Google That For You… and has an app and a website… and it has been a “thing” for a while now in a few different forms… shows an alarming trend over the years for people to expect information to be provided to them, rather than having to look things up themselves. There’s a difference between bringing oneself up to speed, and being brought up to speed. In this case, it is like merging onto a highway from an onramp. Everyone is already moving at speed. As a driver entering the freeway (or conversation), you cannot expect everyone else to slow down so you can get on the road. You have to get up to speed before your onramp ends, so you can merge properly with the traffic. What we are talking about here with acronyms, is very similar. A person comes across a conversation using acronyms that may or may not involve a game they might be interested in. That’s a “fast” conversation. People are saving keystrokes to talk. I don’t agree with the sentiment that they should EITHER have been restricted to a slower conversation by a sub rule detailing acronym usage, or that the conversation should be slowed down for EVERYONE, because some people don’t want to have to look things up to bring themselves up to speed (the onramp to the highway).
