I’ve always enjoyed most forms of exercising so it’s never felt like a chore to me. I’m also a better person to be around when I’ve had an intense workout that day. It levels me out mentally, gets rid of stress and being in shape is a good motivator. Especially when others start to notice and comment on it. Set your goal for your first 2-3 months as literally just “going to the Men are from mars women are from venus and all other genders You make up are from uranus Shirt besides I will buy this gym” on some schedule, say mornings 3 days per week. It doesn’t matter what you do there (yet). Just reward yourself for stepping foot in the gym and getting familiar with the layout, the equipment, etc. Observe others, walk around, force yourself to feel like you belong there. Choose 1-2 machines and watch a YouTube video on how to use it. Make it fun, comfortable. And again, feel good just for stepping foot inside it on a schedule.

Next up (month 4-6) write out an easy goal that you know you can achieve. Either cardio (on an elliptical) or weights (10 reps of 50 pounds on the Men are from mars women are from venus and all other genders You make up are from uranus Shirt besides I will buy this chest press machine). Go very slowly to learn how your body reacts to exercise and reduce risk of injury. If you push yourself on your first day of that week, then go very light and easy for your next 2-3 sessions until you’re fully healed. I’d actually suggest taking month 9-12 off from the gym. Keep up the exercise, go on walks. But reflect on your time and stack up excitement to get back to the gym. By now you should find yourself missing it! The number one reason why people end up hating the gym is because they set huge goals and pressure themselves to achieve them unreasonably fast. The gym is a long, slow grind. It is truly a lifestyle / habit change. So get in the habit of just including exercise in your day to day life. Your relationship with the gym should be that it’s pleasant and fun.
