Shutting down major ports of entry and harassing entire cities by blocking streets with semi trucks and harassing the locals is borderline terrorism. There goals and methods don’t even make sense, trying to get Trudeau to resign or change provincial vaccine mandates doesn’t even make sense. That’s like trying to protest Biden because the state of Kentucky passed a law. I genuinely wonder if you would feel the same had we had this conversation during the BLM protests. There were marches because of George Floyd’s murder in states other than Minnesota, are those now unjustified? What about the ones in the UK?

Had the BLM protests shut down the border would you be calling for their heads? I’m no redcap but this is still wrong. If BLM had blockaded a port of entry that let in ~25% of the countries international trade, then that particular hypothetical protest would have been totally unjustified. The act of peacefully marching and protesting in and of itself is generally harmless and should be allowed, but there are obviously places and types of protest that cross over the line and government/law enforcement have to respond, harassing an entire city by gridlocking traffick with semi trucks and laying on the horn for days on end is not justifiable. No one is calling for heads. Arresting specific individuals on various public nuisance charges pending a trial and impounding their vehicles is fairly reasonable response to this type of crap. Frankly most of these ‘protestors’ in ottawa could do with a few weeks in jail and some hefty fines. Those that are being violent should have the book thrown at them. Same standard should have applied to the various BLM protests, in many places it did not and instead there were riot police with batons, rubber bullets, and tear gas grenades laying into crowds of people indiscriminately. Which in addition to being a wildly ineffective use if police resources as indiscriminately arresting people is a good way to get all of the arrests associated with an event thrown out as there is basically 0 evidence any individual broke the law, also actually serves to increases tension and bolster the movement they are trying to suppress via the constant stream videos of police cracking skulls and interviews from local residents who can’t stay in their own homes or operate their businesses because the ventilation system is now contaminated with tear gas from several weeks or months of nearby protests.
