I unfortunately eat a lot of pre-made meals, frozen meals & microwave meals. I have severe depression and after school & work, cooking most days isn’t an option energy wise. It SUCKS and I hate it but I don’t really have another option. When I wasn’t in school I was cooking at home pretty much every day. Also, potatoes. Low energy (i boil them), customizable with spices. I don’t understand ppl who seem to make/assemble nothing from home either. Idk how they manage to eat out all their meals. Personally, I’d hate that. I enjoy cooking and like control over my ingredients/portions, etc. Our home cooked food generally tastes better to us as well. I do wish we would do it twice a week, but once is good too. i don’t eat breakfast unless i have work and then i grab a slice of bread and butter or a muffin or something first of all, so that’s one meal done. i eat a lot of pasta tbh. also soups. i love em both and they’re both pretty easy. even french onion soup, which kinda feels fancy, is just most of a bag of onions, some spices, and some broth plus cheesey bread and maybe some wine. I only eat take-out when there are really good deals or freebies. At the same time, I do not cook food from scratch. The most I do is throw something in the oven, air fryer or microwave, and maybe add some salt & pepper. I don’t even use butter or oil when cooking because I prefer to have more volume and sacrifice a bit of flavor. The “staples” of my diet: ramen. Refried beans. Frozen pizza, frozen hamburger patties, California veggie mix, french fries or onion rings, shrimp. Baked potatoes or instant mashed potatoes. Scrambled eggs. Up until a few months ago I ate an absurd amount of tofu and other soy products, but I’m out of that phase for now. I’ve got it down to about 6 hours a week cooking for two. Wife does the dishes. We shop together. It’s a lot of time for two people who are in the office >40 hours, and we both go to the gym 5-6 hours a week. Otherwise I’d be eating frozen salt bread like the rest of y’all, and that makes me feel like shit, so I put in the work. ~$200 a week: 5lb chicken breast, fruit, veggies, rice, beans, beer, yogurt, etc. Its the only way to eat healthy for < $20k food budget annually.
