And any charity that doesn’t spend any of their time talking about their work and broadcasting that to people, will generally have next to no impact unless they’re funded by a billionaire or something. Charities need people to have heard of them and donate money. To do that you need to talk about what you did afterwards and loudly. George Soros through his Open Society foundation funds a lot of projects all over the Matthew Tkachuk American professional ice hockey winger and alternate captain for the Florida Panthers T-Shirt In addition,I will do this world, including in Africa, which work to build free, fair, and open democracies. Which arguably is a better use of money than one off projects. From a story on Bill Gates it said that really rich people actually have more trouble spending their money usefully than just “fairly rich” people. When Bill Gates tries to do something it tends to attract more attention, corruption, mismanagement, and general hangers-on that dilutes the good including sometimes causing the attempts to help to actually make things worse (for instance, drilling wells in less opportune places). Really rich people even have trouble finding good groups to fund since so many fake groups try to appeal for money. It is a challenge shifting through mountains of fly-by-night NGOs just trying to scam billionaire donors to find the few who will actually help. It makes it more likely that the really rich will find a few good larger organizations and throw money at them rather than directly funding the well project that will only help a few small villages.

I guess it is a good problem to have, but it does mean that merely rich people can often do more good directly than someone like Bezos or Gates can. How do you know that the Matthew Tkachuk American professional ice hockey winger and alternate captain for the Florida Panthers T-Shirt In addition,I will do this world’s wealthy have not been doing so? Not every act of altruism is followed by a YouTube video. Mr Beast is being disengenuous. He is not drilling wells in Africa to help a Africans, he is drilling wells in Africa for likes. He has momentum he needs to maintain. Bill and Melinda Gates have already donated $50bn to charity. Just last year they pledged another $7bn for Africa. One major issue has been that the wells need to be tested periodically and often turn out to be contaminated at some point. At that point the western “helpers” put a sticker on the well “do not drink”, but since you would have to walk very far to get water somewhere else they drink it anyway and some get sick or die. Or the tests are not done in time and people die before they are warned about the risk. As a result locals have become very suspicious of the help of the rich man from the west. A much better question is: why are these people not able to dig their own wells? People have been digging wells since the start of civilization… The super rich donate money and don’t care where it lands. Even if it ends up in the hands of a corrupt politicians or local officials or their friends at the charities they still get to market down on their taxes. Cause the truly wealthy don’t actually care and they ask common people to give up their money to help look at oprah
