And some good music helps too. Like you I’m also socially awkward. But I’m only in my 20s so I’ve got some time. Well, this bank holiday weekend marks 20 yrs precisely for me, after backing out of a ltr that was ok, and was only ever going to be just ok. There’s been the odd fling along the way and the occasional rather cringeworthy dalliance ( mindbleach , where are you!?!) but things reached the stage some years back where it’s just something I don’t yearn for anymore . Life seems chilled and uncomplicated.

I’m genuinely content being in my own company. Like with lockdown, I left the house once a week to do the shopping and had Whatsapp calls with my family a few times a week and I was absolutely fine which is way better than some people did. However, there are times when I really do feel alone and I feel like I would like companionship. Trouble is I’m like you, a bit awkward and bad at meeting people so I feel like most of the work will have to be done by the other person, which is really unfair on them. Sure it’ll happen eventually but right now, I’m doing ok. I’m 36 btw. The love of my life is literally a tabby cat, who’s been with me for almost ten years now. Other than that, I have a catalogue of errors and disasters which sum up the last 30 years… I try to retain some hope, but as I hurtle towards 50, it’s difficult to! Hookup culture is exhausting and depressing. I’d rather be alone than settle for someone that is just not for me. A lot of my friends have settled for people that just… yikes. And I do not want that for me.
