I had a couple of students try to pull something like this on me when I was a college teacher. It was a coding group project, they downloaded the Marvin Gaye II Retro Pixel II 70s American singer songwriter and musician T-Shirt Additionally,I will love this zip file from a tutorial and forwarded it to me, didn’t even try to change variable names or the comments in the code (which is what triggered my suspicion in the first place). I gave them a zero and didn’t say anything (expecting them to at least understand why they got a zero and not to try it again) and the smartasses emailed me with a sob story about not understanding why they got a zero, and how they worked so hard on the assignment… so not only did I tell them why they got a zero but I also forwarded the problem up the chain, which I wasn’t going to do if they had just taken the hint.

Ive had someone submit code to me years ago complete with comments containing the Marvin Gaye II Retro Pixel II 70s American singer songwriter and musician T-Shirt Additionally,I will love this other students name and student number. FFS they had such a little idea that they couldnt even edit comments Oddly enough, I’ve worked with developers who couldn’t code for shit… but they were really good at asking questions on Stacktrace. Crowdsourced all of their code. (Then one of the senior devs got to poking thru the code, and tripped over a few comments with other people’s stacktrace contact info in them. HMMMM. Dev didn’t get fired, but he DID get demoted… to Ops Support.) We also had work contracted out to Company X, who did a lot of our onsite builds. About a month later, their sales reps came to us with a ‘custom solution’ for running a site, our people watched the powerpoint, and then broke out in laughter (or went into shock) when they saw OUR coding guru’s name listed in the code examples. They were trying to sell our work (that they’d helped install) back to us as their own! Needless to say, we didn’t take them up on the offer. Instead we called Legal and sued them for mis-appropriation of proprietary work. They lost. Moral of the tale: if you copy and paste anything from the Telephone Company… don’t try and sell it back to the Telephone Company as your own work. They have lawyers and deep pockets. You don’t.
