The fact that the Marvel Christmas Tree Avengers shirt Also,I will get this acronym LMGTFY exists… and that stands for Let Me Google That For You… and has an app and a website… and it has been a “thing” for a while now in a few different forms… shows an alarming trend over the years for people to expect information to be provided to them, rather than having to look things up themselves. There’s a difference between bringing oneself up to speed, and being brought up to speed. In this case, it is like merging onto a highway from an onramp. Everyone is already moving at speed. As a driver entering the freeway (or conversation), you cannot expect everyone else to slow down so you can get on the road. You have to get up to speed before your onramp ends, so you can merge properly with the traffic. What we are talking about here with acronyms, is very similar. A person comes across a conversation using acronyms that may or may not involve a game they might be interested in. That’s a “fast” conversation. People are saving keystrokes to talk. I don’t agree with the sentiment that they should EITHER have been restricted to a slower conversation by a sub rule detailing acronym usage, or that the conversation should be slowed down for EVERYONE, because some people don’t want to have to look things up to bring themselves up to speed (the onramp to the highway).

There’s an aspect of LOTRO (Lord of the Marvel Christmas Tree Avengers shirt Also,I will get this Rings Online) that is pretty cool. A new player can hang out in the opening lands, and get assisted through all the starting deeds, just by asking. There are players with high level characters hanging out in those starter areas. They will allow new players to “follow” (a command that allows one player to attach themselves to another player, and not have to do ANYTHING while they trail behind and share XPs from any combat the leader engages in). The high level character will then blaze through all the starting Deeds… killing X mobs to receive Turbine Points, and everyone in this train following behind gets the XPs, and the Deeds finished in minutes instead of hours (or days). It is a nice thing to do for new players, and there are people hanging out who will do it for the asking. You gotta ask though. Do some people advertise the fact that they are available to do it? Sure. You still have to speak up and ask if you want it done. You cannot jump into the game, new, and EXPECT that someone is just going to show up, scoop you up, and pull you through your next few levels without you touching the keyboard. You can ask for someone to help, but you cannot expect it to just be there.
