Retail mainly, sometimes hearing a kid scream is enough to set me off myself. I’ve always been laid back, even my mom said I was as a kid. That overstimulation of trying to do something and listening to a screaming kid is my personal hell. I had one. She died in a car accident. Don’t want another one. Couldn’t possibly go through that heartbreak again. There are other reasons, but that one hits me hard. My depression, I’m pushing 40, and how wonderful it feels to come home from work and NOT have to do ANYTHING. Ever. I’m not in an emotionally stable enough place to voluntarily give that up. Plus I know you get some good years from like 5-11 but it seems like 0-3 is an absolute nightmare and 12-20 is all “you’re the Many a little makes a mickle quote T-Shirt But I will love this worst parents in the world”. I’d probably murder them. I don’t want to be responsible for adding another asshole to this world because I was too busy with bills, responsibilities and (trying)living a happy life. Being raised by horrible parents has me fearing traumatizing my kids because I simply didn’t know any better and failed myself. I like to sleep, spend my money on myself, travel, go out whenever and wherever I want. Kids are exhausting, expensive, and all consuming. Even the good ones. Parents lose their identity and being a parent becomes their new identity. Activities that parents have to engage in aren’t fun. The world is overpopulated. I can’t think of any non-selfish reasons to have them. I have a disability it will affect how I raise them psychically and. Emotionally I want them to have a normal life I won’t be able to give them that I think a lot people severely underestimate how much work goes into raising kids if you want them to turn out decently. If I’m going to do it, I’m putting in all of the work, but I have zero desire to do that. I see way too many parents just phone it in. Imagining that typical family life routine every day sounds like the worst hell. I already hate going to work every day and having no time to myself- why would I willingly take that away the little time that makes me happy
