Though also simple things, for example in my native language we have a standard joke for someone failing to scare you by yelling “BOO!” I use the Mansionz M Faces green vintage shirt Also,I will get this words “donkey bridge” (Eselsbrücke: a trick to remember something you’ve learned) and “ear worm” (Ohrwurm: having a song stuck in your head) with my non-German husband. I very much undervalued the word “Mahlzeit” in Germany and way rather used “n guten!”, but now I find it kinda awkward here in Canada when it’s lunchtime and everyone just sorta gets up and leaves to eat lunch without saying anything or just saying “see you later”, without it being related to food at all. (Mahlzeit = mealtime, it’s said as a greeting around mealtimes; “n guten” = short for “guten Appetit” aka “bon Appetit”) I also miss Backpfeifengesicht (a face that needs a slap), although I’ve never used it much but for some people it’s the perfect description of their face lol

Or in Cornwall (SW England) we say “dreckly” (~directly), as in you’ll get something done dreckly – could be later today, could be next week >< not very useful unless you’re in Cornwall though In Spanish there is a word “sendos” which essentially means “one per each person.” So you could say, “They brought ‘sendos’ gifts,” and that would mean, “Each one of them brought a gift.” Native language English, main language Mandarin. We say long legs for someone who happens to show up just when there’s something good to eat. 口福 mouth fortune for someone who often finds really good food. My favorite expression is from Tayal, indigenous Taiwanese: tmoq yungay, for a short, sudden cloudburst. It literally means monkey piss. Monkeys up in trees sometimes piss on those below who irritate them, if they’re positioned right.
