Happen to have a small connection with one of the Mama Mommy Mom Bruh Flowers Retro Mothers Day T-Shirt In addition,I will do this people in then hiring committee. My previous job had like an eighth of the responsibilities I have now And honestly for most entry-level gigs it’s generally not your skillset that is most important but your attitude + ability to work well with others and fit nicely into a team structure. Knowing someone or having connections in the industry help mitigate your chances of hiring a true lunatic or someone completely unable to handle the job & office politics (not guaranteed of course lol) Which is why people will gravitate towards those who will know folks or have a similar background, you’ll learn all the important stuff on the job anyway. This is why I think soft skills are just as important as hard skills for most industries (obviously not as applicable if you are a software engineer or academic, although you’d be surprised how much a little schmoozing will go in any field). Every time I hear these stories it makes me feel like I’ve spent my life befriending the wrong guys. Nobody has ever helped me get a job besides the nightmare year I spent at a rideshare call center

But, with many, many, many things, you can fake it until you make it… so knowing stuff is still secondary to knowing the right people. The reality is that, even if you’re the greatest ever at what you do, it really doesn’t matter if you never connect with the right people.
