Dude, to pretend like there isn’t a problem with police in Canada or US is absolutely ridiculous. I did have good experience with some police officers. It doesn’t matter though. No matter how many “good” cops there are, policing as whole is a massive disaster. thats just the Madam doesn’t get paid enough for this shirt besides I will buy this way the law is set up here. the police take the information, and crown decides if its worth pursuing or frivolous. if it seems like there is a case there, they will pursue it. otherwise, they wont waste anyones time… though more investigation may (will) happen than that first encounter before that decision is made. Ostensibly it is to protect the defendant in domestic assault cases. A battered spouse may refuse to press charges for years and end up in a situation where violence keeps escalating until they’re dead.

This person is unhinged and a threat to peaceful life for you and the lady. Don’t feel any way about it other than good. The guy will screw it up, it’ll get worse for him. Keep documentation like you have, live your best life and much respect for getting up and standing up to it. The charges will come with a no contact order. Don’t threaten to call the police again if he breaks it – just do it. As someone who has been in a DV relationship, i would ask you to file. The person being abused often does not have the strength or esteem to file or may be fearful too, while knowing they may not take them seriously anyways. If she is a victim of abuse or has some weird borderline codependence relationship with him, then you should expect her to be uncooperative with you, and to avoid putting the ex in jeopardy.
