So a 30 minute intro call, 20 minute touch base with a senior recruiter to set up the Mac demarco Canadian singer play guitar shirt but in fact I love this two hour virtual onsite for the system design and leadership interviews plus me asking some questions, doing those interviews, and then a bit of negotiating the offer saw me in a new job with a $25k pay raise. I was actually somewhat nervous for the interview actually because if it didn’t work out I was gonna feel like shit because so many other former coworkers got jobs there so if I couldn’t hack it, what did that say about me? Sadly got laid off, but the VP who reached out to me pinged all those affected about a buddy of his at a consulting agency who I’d actually connected with at a conference about 5 years earlier. Reached out to him and that got the ball rolling for interviews with them. Wasn’t quite as swift as the last place but still not terribly rigorous, and while they couldn’t match what I was making it was good enough and came with a title bump so I took it.

Doesn’t that mostly work only if your ex coworkers also moved companies before? Unless you’re asking them to contact their ex coworkers for a referral. Am I understanding this right? You don’t typically stay the Mac demarco Canadian singer play guitar shirt but in fact I love this same company forever, especially in software. You stick around 2-3 years, and then you realize you’re not getting raises and jump ship. If you find a place that values you and pays you well and has some job security, by all means, stay, but just know that’s the not reality for a lot of engineers. This also applies to your coworkers. A lot of them jumped ship before I did, and then when I was looking for a new job, they’d be like “hey my company is hiring. Do you want me to refer you?” You do the same when you’re at a company. The relationship goes both way. This is why employers offer referral bonuses. You use your professional relationships to bring in quality candidates, you can a bonus if they are hired and stick around a minimum time frame.
