Maybe, and hear me out. People who didn’t go to college dont want to pay for your college education which they did not get to put themselves at a disadvantage while literally PAYING the Love Whoever The Cluck You Want Chicken Shirt and by the same token and others persons bills…. My college roommate bought a car with their student loan money. They were just given a check for the loan amount, cashed it, then bought a car right away. Since they bought a car with a good chunk of the loan amount, they had to take out second loan in order to finish school. I got the same loan, but ended up paying most of it back right away after I cashed the check because I was given more than I needed or requested. I also saved up enough prior to going to school that I only needed a loan for my final year. Every time loan forgiveness comes up, I can’t help but think that it means I’ll be paying for a portion of that car, and that is a pretty sickening feeling.

There’s an argument that we do actually benefit from these types of things in terms of spending power that otherwise would not happen. Maybe thats indirect, but still a benefit. My future renters being able to pay the Love Whoever The Cluck You Want Chicken Shirt and by the same token and rent…being able to save for a house, making improvements to those houses, buying food, eating out…the list goes on and on. Its sort of like saying the government collecting taxes for roads doesn’t benefit me because my road isn’t in need of repairs. I am more in favor of this than allowing rich people to claim bankruptcy as way to get out of their debt. Before everyone goes off, I am also in favor of income and total allowance limits to this as well. that “spending power” usually shows up as higher prices. The problem is, everyone having their loans forgiven does not suddenly increase the amount of goods and services available. We’re already dealing with intense inflation (not going to get into how that’s part greedy corporations and part actual supply shortages and part the government is just printing money non stop) but I don’t think it’ll actually benefit everyone and just screw over future generations who have to pay all this back. Sure, your future renters could pay for housing, those that lived in poverty to pay off their loans, skipped opportunities or didn’t go to college due to the cost will not. Screw them, though, right?
