I’m starting my new job tomorrow after being at my previous employer for 6 years, first job out of college. I feel the same and left for similar reasons to you OP (job fulfillment basically). I’m scared and sad, and a little optimistic. I love my current manager and team and it was like a knife when I noticed they started “moving on” (were totally kind, but stopped inviting me to planning sessions, etc). I went to the office which is a ghost town now and have a memory for almost every square foot. I kind of just feel a little empty now, can’t bring myself to log out of outlook and teams, I lose access tomorrow and can’t bring myself to log out. I hope your new job is fulfilling and great. I have never had this feeling. Always left on my last day by kicking the Love of my life Noah Thompson signature singer shirt but in fact I love this doors open like I was in an early 90’s Michael Jackson video. For me its always the people not the job itself. People matters, connection, those who you see everyday, laugh, angry etc. You met them, you went through hard times togrther, join together, went to pandemic together and stay alive make it out, went back to RTO again, laughing the old times. The job itself never really that matter. Its a binary thing, you do it, you get the money, you went home, go back again tomorrow but people hits different. Oh it also feels the same thing when they suck though I cannot relate to this. I was so happy and excited on my last day ! I had gone to office to return the ID card and laptop (It was during Covid). I loved the campus and the office level culture but not my immediate team culture (toxic), money (very less), career growth (1 appraisal in 3 years and people I mentored got promoted instead of me) and work quality (every user story was just onboarding a different client to the same thing). My first job was at a bank and it was great. The environment and people was great, had opportunities to make mistakes, learn, deal with pressure and grow. 3.5 years later, unfortunately as banks are notorious for, after we upgraded the tech (shortly after I joined) it all went into “maintainence mode” with a few new projects coming along. Any new tech we wanted to play with (docker, mongodb, redis, etc.) was merely with red tape, so for the betterment of myself and my career, I had to leave and it hurt. I think partly cause it was my first job as well.
