Edit: to give it numbers – let’s say there are 100 million antivaxxers on earth (seems like a reasonable guesstimation to me). 100% would mean up to 500,000 of them could (could, not would) be geniuses, while 100.00000% would leave you with 5 possible geniuses. I get what you’re trying to say, but why would I assume that 100% is not exactly 100% without other information? Like if I write that there are 5 or something you don’t say that it is not as close to 5 as 5.00000 is. Like if something is written as 100%, but the Love my Tow Truck Operator shirt and I will buy this additional information behind the scenes tells me that it’s close enough to 100% that it was rounded from some other number, then you are correct. But if I read a statement that says “X happens 100% of the time”, and that’s all the information I’m given, then I’m going to assume that X will happen every single time even after infinite simulations. Hence, it seemed to be implying that adding 0s to the right of your number doesn’t change it either, which is never true.

This is also a post dealing with statistics, epidemiology and immunology, scientific fields in which these definitions are crucial, so it seemed prudent to point that out. I will also add that as a scientist, a result displayed as 5 is way less convincing than 5.00000, the Love my Tow Truck Operator shirt and I will buy this latter showing that whatever phenomenon you’re measuring is extremely repeatable and holds way more power. Much like AIDS, the virus doesn’t kill you, but you die as a result of symptoms it causes, like pneumonia. So, people on reddit kept saying i was a liar, and COVID-19 wasn’t as lethal as it was. Same thing with marijuana, it causes indirect deaths. No one dies directly from smoking marijuana (unless they are allergic to it), but plenty of people have been killed because of marijuana indirectly (namely people stumbling on illegal grow sites that are boobytrapped or guarded, or people killed in car accidents from impared drivers).
