Edited to add: a normal and non-abusive thing would be for a parent to spend a fair amount of time trying to get their kid to try new foods, or to make sure that they eat enough nutritious food to be able to get on with their day without being hungry. Some kids are just easily distracted, or have low appetite, or struggle to develop a taste for less-sweet foods. SoOo my kids are not spanked yelled ect at but I will tell them this is what is for xyz meal take it or leave it. Don’t like it don’t eat it but also don’t complain later you are hungry if you didn’t at least try to eat. My 4 year old up to my 15 year old knows there is always a sandwich and chips available later if you are hungry but don’t come and ask me to make you a meal if you rejected the one I spent time making

My parents grew up in the LOVE Laboratory Life Leopard Laboratory Tech Valentine’s Day T-Shirt in addition I really love this Depression, and wasting food was unthinkable, so I wasn’t allowed to leave the table if I didn’t finish. To be fair, they were trying to put a dent in our candy consumption and snacking. In the end, I learned to cook at an early age, and we negotiated the portioning stuff. Well, shit, they weren’t parents til I was born, and I’d never been a kid before, so there’s that. My parents never really did that unless I was blatantly being an ass. If I were being a brat and going on a hunger strike, my parents would play the waiting game with me. Eventually I’d cave and eat. Worked every time. But they never served me more than I could eat, and stopped me from eating excessively until I was like 10. When I got armpit hair, they let me eat as much as I wanted. LOL
