So…. yes. Those people who responded as if you should have known, after you expressed your ignorance, were in the Love Grinch #Grandmalife Christmas Shirt and by the same token and wrong. But… you also had a part to play, in being able to shrug off their elitist attitude to continue to question and learn what they were talking about. True but then there’s the people specifically offering advice on something while using the abbreviations, making the advice hard to follow when the person has no idea what they’re saying Yeh when your giving advice to someone and trying to keep it simple you should say the words in full before using abbreviations in later talk. Yeah especially if they’re helping you with some builds or items in a game and you have no clue what they’re referring to.

But if i don’t play RGBF2 i can’t do anything with the Love Grinch #Grandmalife Christmas Shirt and by the same token and advice anyway. If i know RGBF2, i can already relate to most abbreviations. If QUELV is an endgame item while i’m in early game, i can’t use the information yet Idk man, I’ve been playing RuneScape for 18 years and the subreddit is full of acronyms that I don’t understand. The number of posts that only refer to the game they’re even talking about by abbreviations, or just assume you know the game they’re talking about in general, is insane. How would I know what to look up if I don’t even know what the domain is? Other subreddits require you to name the thing you’re talking about in brackets in the title. I think r/gaming would be dramatically better for it. Yeah I always feel like it’s a purposeful kind of gatekeeping. Don’t already know what we’re talking about? Then you don’t belong here. It’s to weed out new people.
