OK, this explanation gives a bit more context than your original post and indicates why there was an investigation that led back to the Lou Hedley New Orleans Player Australian-born American football punter T-Shirt moreover I love this transaction you handled. Retail are notoriously bad at training due to the high turnover of staff, so there’s probably some obscure cash handling requirements that you were never trained on. Tbh, I still don’t know what your manager could have done differently to stop it but yeah, you’re being made a scapegoat for it because something suspicious happened. Next time, make sure you call the manager EVERY TIME someone pays with £100 or more in cash to see what they will do. You doubled checked the money, the amount and that it was real cash. If that’s the case then I could see how you could face disciplinary action for not following procedures even when, as in this case, all the notes were genuine, because it’s about risk management. The view would be that you got lucky this time but the company was opened up to risk by your actions.
