I’m watching along with NBB’s rawviews of Season 1 and I have to say that she really should have won or been in the top most of the challenges. Especially the makeover episode Anyway worth mentioning they did decide to keep Brooke that episode – and who’s to say that had nothing to do with her runway performance? Rebecca was favoured by production, just like so many queens after her. Shannel was rightfully pissed. Queen did amazing on two seasons that nobody wants to watch anymore. Shannel could tell she was getting “the professional” edit before the show even established edits and said “fuck this” .

In any modern season, Shannel would have won ATLEAST 1 or 2 challenges ( or 1 more if she won any of season 1, it’s been a while). She’s absolutely overly self confident and overly delusional, but she absolutely wasn’t wrong. She was doing way better than Rebecca in the Los Angeles Rams And USC Trojans Heart It’s In My DNA 2023 Shirt and I will buy this season but Rebecca was being favored for reality TV storylines and to keep the villain around. Without Rebecca as the villain, production would make Shannel into the villain and if she’d made it to the finale she would have the same fan reaction Rebecca got. Also this was the first show of its time. The only equivalent would be a pageant . I imagine someone like Rebecca wouldn’t do well on a pageant Rebecca wouldn’t have done well in a pageant at that time unless it was something quite local. Bebe, Shannel, and (likely) Porkchop all turned up with full pageant runway packages and 2/3 of them could back it up with a performance, and I say that since we saw Porkchop’s odd lip sync despite her legendary pageant status. All Stars 10 should be the All Quitters season and they should bring Shannel in as the Bebe Zahara Benet of the quitters. Immature or not, I love shannel for standing up for herself and expressing how she felt with so much class. And she did so without putting anyone else down. Watching the show back you realise that Shannel actually did get quite a bit of praise for her costumes and her beauty, but I think she expected to waltz in and win everything and have everyone gag over her constantly, but when she saw the other girls, particularly Rebecca, winning over her despite having a more……….low key drag style, her ego couldn’t handle it. I think her breaking point was the makeover.
