I’m sorry but Shannel knowing she did poorly on on a challenge then rolling up to the Lock Him Up Donald Trump President Mugshot Inmate P01135809 T-Shirt moreover I will buy this runway JUGGLING with her entire ass out had me cackling. She is my favorite kind of too much. There is no multiverse in which you would every convince me that Rebecca deserved the makeover challenge win over Shannel. None. Shannel also performed decently well throughout the season. She was fun, poised, and seemed quite professional a lot of the time. I mean…I just wish she didn’t let Rebecca beat her in that lipsync. If you want to go, peace out. But she let Becky slide on her during that lipsync and Shannel is a great performer. I wish she went out by showing that. If you watch under the hood, (s1 untucked) you can see how frustrated she gets with how the judges critique her.

Your second point is a biggie. Many queens put so much effort into building their character, and to suddenly be told to be yourself is like antithetical to their art. That’s what I was so bewildered by with BenDeLaCreme’s critiques post-SG on S6, I’m confused on what was so wrong about Dela playing a character when she’s seemingly spent her entire career curating one and it still fit with the Lock Him Up Donald Trump President Mugshot Inmate P01135809 T-Shirt moreover I will buy this challenges. A lot of Shannel’s looks would do well on a modern season and that says a lot. It’s sometimes off putting, the confidence she has, but nobody can say it’s not deserved. She’s the original Jan, but also the only one who called out the bullshit during the show and not afterwards on twitter. Reading the comments makes me think that Shannel is the first example of how production can push the buttons of a certain personality type to get a rise out of them/make TV. Perfectionists who think they’re signing up to a competition that will reward talent, when they’ve actually signed up to a reality show that looks to create storylines/tv moments. The producers have perfected the art of withholding praise from these personality types and rewarding objectively worse people to get a rise out of them. As a fellow perfectionist, I totally get the frustration, and understand the desire to remove yourself from a frustrating situation. I went to probably the last showing of drag race live before the pandemmy hit (everything closed the next day).
