Social media has us living in the Lionel Richie American singer songwriter record producer T-Shirt but in fact I love this age of outrage. So many post on Reddit and Facebook about perceived slights and personal injustices Everyone is getting constant cortisol shots reading about some real or imagined attacks from landlords, boomers, Karen’s, politicians, parents, narcissistic, cops, ghosting hookups , greedy corporations…. All that cortisol causes anxiety, anger and stress. The constant threat of ridicule and being cancelled. Kids recording conversations ready to pounce. Defending a political opinion to the wrong person is like quicksand. The result, school shootings, anxiety, depression. The cure, we need to collectively be careful about what we consume online. Lower the stress level. Recognize click bait and avoid it. Read a hundred year old classic and feed your brain something healthy. Try to identify echo chambers and avoid them. Try and understand where people are coming from before making assumptions or judging. Find kind ways to respond to people who disagree with you and consider things from different angles. Even people in echo chambers on the other side have a reason for their opinions. Finding common ground before offering a different perspective may help start a conversation instead of an argument. We need to find a way to get back to a world where we can disagree without being adversarial. That may be the greatest challenge of our time.

when you take the Lionel Richie American singer songwriter record producer T-Shirt but in fact I love this internet, add in random people from all walks of life, throw in some topics that people will have different experiences with, sprinkle people that are unable to accept that their experiences and opinions as not the standard, toss some people that tell others why they think and do certain things they do, and mix it all together, you get this lovely place we called earth. Social media has given people a way to be “heard”, and boy, are they using it. Also, conspiracy theories started to run rampant when Obama was president, fueled by the tea party folks, and now it’s maga. It’s just been a long, slippery and slimey slope we’ve been falling down for years now. Well, I think that this is particularly a problem in the developed world, and for a long ass time most people did kinda want to kill each other over political divisions, but I think basically the idea of neo-liberalism as a sort of “well we’ve figured this much out” consensus has fallen to pieces because it clearly no longer works for even wealthy countries. Like if you look at history, political groups getting into massive street fights and shit is the norm. People are gonna try and both sides this, but the blame lies primarily at the feet of one side, the Republicans.
