I no longer live paycheck to paycheck. And I can get a job anywhere in any city I want, and I have. I can go work anywhere… everyone always needs some sort of electrical work done somewhere and I can get my eight hours and leave. I get vacation, 401k, great insurance and on top of all that if I want I can take unpaid time off for a sabbatical. A lot of the Lineman Because Brick Wall Isn’t An Official Position Retro Football Player T-Shirt moreover I love this problem is the current house market. Renting/owning a home is going to be your biggest monthly investment. When people are paying 2-3x as much on a home compared to 6-8 years ago, that’s tacking on another $1k-2k in monthly debt. Inflation sure didn’t help, but if your rent, or mortgage payment was suddenly cut in half, or a third, it would probably feel a lot less like paycheck to paycheck. I bought my house in 2014, and we’ve been able to live comfortably with a family of 5, and a combined income of $70k annually. Together we save $1200 monthly. My wife has only been working 28 hours a week to avoid paying daycare for my 5 year old (soon to enter Kindergarten). If we bought our home today none of that would be possible.

I have a small side hustle that allows me to take plenty of time between jobs as long as I have a little savings. It has been a blessing over the Lineman Because Brick Wall Isn’t An Official Position Retro Football Player T-Shirt moreover I love this last few years. I still bleed money when unemployed, but much slower than I normally would. I’m currently applying for jobs after a 6 month hiatus and haven’t had anyone mention the gaps in my resume, but maybe there are some who just tossed it aside and never contacted me, I guess I’ll never know. My side hustle depends on people having extra money to spend, though. Needless to say business has slowed down A LOT over the past year. We just need stronger labor laws and it’s only slowly been stripped away by corporate insterests. That’s why companies are seeing record profits despite massive layoffs and low wages, yet people can’t live happily. We’re headed towards a dark path and hell we might already be there.
