Older than YouTube even, but it’s not a YouTube alternative. It’s mostly used as a portfolio for videographers for high-quality content. People pay a subscription fee for their videos to be hosted — typically shown free of charge without ads, or others use it to host subscription content or more generally as a CDN. It’s a completely different business model. For example, a filmmaker might use it to host their film privately and send it as a limited-time link for a film festival submission.
