Still, the Lewis hamilton world titles signature nascar shirt What’s more,I will buy this LGBT issue had lost most of its potency with all but the most conservative believers because it was ultimately an issue of private morality and two gay people having a sexual relationship in private did not stimulate the moral outrage of the faithful it once had. That’s why the T part of the LGBT is at the center of this renewed prejudice, hostility, and violence against the community. These right wing social media pundits, along with personalities at Fox and other major right wing news agencies zeroed in on the trans community because they knew that it was the hardest for rigid-minded people to understand. When they started to connect trans identity to distorted and false claims about gender assignment surgery on children, pedophilia, mental illness, safety in women’s bathrooms, and the sanctity of women’s sports, it fueled a moral panic not that different than others we’ve seen: the witch trials of Europe and the Americas; the Satanic Panic. Both are useful examples because they both occurred in the US and were uniquely Christian in nature. The same is true of the current anti-trans/anti-LGBT moral panic sweeping the US and now Canada, which has caught it as one might catch a virus from a sick person in their proximity.

The anti-LGBT BS that has spread to Canada from the Lewis hamilton world titles signature nascar shirt What’s more,I will buy this current insanity in the US is particularly messed up, even if it’s occurring in a less fervent climate, with far fewer fanatics taking part, and no major legislative achievements to brag about yet. But still…the fact that it’s happening here at all is frightening, since Canada has always been ahead of the US on LGBT issues, and homosexuality was federally decriminalized here in 1969, just after Stonewall. In 1995, Egan v Canada established that the rights of LGBT peoples in Canada were enshrined in our Constitution and Charter. Beyond that, this country made two additional legislative steps towards legal equality and protection of LGBT individuals when they were formally added to the Canadian Human Rights Act in 1996, and gay marriage was legalized across the country in 2005. Until recently, this issue hadn’t been controversial in Canadian political discourse for a long time, so this sudden surge in anti-LGBT activity doesn’t reflect the public sentiment for decades. Still, a small group of extremists have managed to effectively politicize the issue, harass politicians and bureaucrats, and infiltrate school boards to try and pressure schools to banish any discussion of LGBT issues in classrooms, regardless of the grade. They’ve made a normally festive Pride Month in my city an anxious affair, despite us having an annual pride parade that is one of the largest in the world, with about a million attendees participating over two days.
