It is partly companies not valuing more experience. For a lot of staff they do not get a significant pay increase each year to match their work experience at each company. Another part is a shift in generational culture of sorts. Boomers tend to value loyalty and would stay with a company just cause they have stayed their for years. The younger generation tends to value more of a work life balance which they may not necessarily be getting by staying at the Let’s Barbieque Shirt also I will do this same company for 10+ years. over the course of time i think we underestimate how much the wealthy have paid attention to what they can get away with, and are constantly trying to keep pulling away whatever has been fought for by labor efforts. the game is always in play for them, whereas for us, especially in the last few generations, everyday people are looking for a place to settle securely. we’re always under that illusion that the ideal place to settle is within our grasp. for me, as an older millennial, i saw my grandparents retire with pensions and good supplemental measures from the government. since then, what’s changed? policy and lack of labor organization due to carefully laid propaganda. the left has been pushed further right to the point that there effectively is no real backing for labor, which was the force which bought my grandparents the security they ultimately were able to leverage to retire and die in comfort for working class people. they take what we allow them to, for as long as we allow it. and the more we let them take, the more power they have to snuff out any attempts we might make to claim back our right to dignity.

As one of those job-hoppers myself it is abundantly clear that most companies pay as little as possible. Companies have never payed employees full value for their labor because they need to make a profit.
