It’s common, although very unfortunate and silly, for enterprise companies to have policies around how much an internal candidate’s salary can be raised. In my company, at most we can do a 5% raise without any questions asked. Higher than that and you have to ask for written approval and offer a rock solid justification. 3 people came from branch who were now making as much as someone promoted 3 times, working an entry level position. You don’t have to hit the ground running as you are already well ahead of anyone else they bring in…no matter how exceptional that person is. They don’t have to spend the time, energy, and expense of searching for, interviewing, negotiating, and paying hiring fees…which can be significant. Thank you for the opportunity. I really appreciate management looking to promote from within as it sends a good message to employees that their hard work is valued, and it makes me feel good that all of the work I have done to succeed in moving the project forward have been noticed.
