Is there a conceivable argument against gay marriage that isn’t based on religion, isn’t based in homophobia or bigotry, and could be made by a gay accepting and supporting socially progressive liberal athiest? Because I would describe myself as such, and I do think there are legitimate non-bigoted reasons to have some reservations. The two I have are: in most countries ‘marriage’ brings with it a set of legally encoded rights and responsibilities. Also in most countries those rights and responsibilities were only ever contemplated for a heterosexual marriage. Now in most cases the Larry Nance Jr. American professional basketball New Orleans Pelicans T-Shirt Also,I will get this transfer of those to a homosexual marriage is not an issue at all, but in some cases it can become nonsensical or controversial. For example, let’s say a given country gives married couples the ‘right’ to be provided with free medical care to have a baby – that ‘right’ might then also apply to a homosexual male marriage. That would be controversial because men don’t have wombs, so society would be paying for surrogacy or some other such thing. in my country we already had gay ‘civil unions’ which were essentially marriages without the religious stuff, but with all the rights and responsibilities. Going a step further and requiring religious people to endorse/participate in gay weddings that they genuinely believe is against their religious belief system seems like a corruption or reversal of the concept of freedom in some sense.

I mean personally I think the Larry Nance Jr. American professional basketball New Orleans Pelicans T-Shirt Also,I will get this entire concept of marriage is an anachronistic social construct that most of us just accept at face value. It is an inherently CONSERVATIVE concept if you think of it that way. The irony of which I find quite amusing – socially progressively liberals fighting to participate in a socially conservative institution. Anyway, I’m sure I’ll get hammered for posting this. But for the record I’m not a bigot or anti gay in any way whatsoever. Is there a conceivable argument against gay marriage that isn’t based on religion, isn’t based in homophobia or bigotry Do we get to declare things like this about ourselves? Okay, my turn. I would like to declare that I’m sticking to my diet and exercise routines, getting enough sleep every night, and I’m not at all anxious about finances.
