The reality of modern times madness it unlikely that children can fully support themselves before they’re 26. Anyone who evicts their child simply because they’re 18 is a terrible parent. I mean I don’t think they all do. I stayed home until I could afford to make a healthy down payment on a house. I was 26 I think this mentality will get less common as it becomes more and more difficult to secure a decent job and afford a home. My kids can stay as long as they need to. I live in bulgaria, and honestly here it’s normal for a lot of people to live with your family and we all struggling with money- so- We actually bought a bigger house so everyone would be comfortable for the Lana Del Rey An American Singer T-Shirt Additionally,I will love this longer haul. We know the economy is rough and they need extra support to become independent The new move-out age is usually “can you afford rent” but half the time seems like you’re still on a family phone plan, sharing the family Netflix passwords, and if you live near parents, going home frequently for dinners, etc. If your parents have health insurance, you’re also covered until 26, the Obamacare cutoff. I am European (German) and a lot of people move out at 18 or 19 because they go to university in another city or already made an apprenticeship and earn their own money. Still living at home at 27 is rather uncommon (maybe except for living in your own apartment in the same house). Also, I don’t actually see why it’s important to have your own house. I don’t even want that. First, because houses in my city aren’t affordable, so I’d have to live on the countryside, second, because owning a house/apartment comes with responsibilities I don’t want to have. I also studied and did my Phd afterwards, I started earning good money at around 33 and couldn’t have afforded a house, anyway. My mother moved out when she was 18, but she wasn’t kicked out. Her parents told her she would need to start paying rent, and if she had to pay rent anyways, she’d rather live on her own. I think that can be the case for quite a few people. I don’t know too many cases of American kids being “kicked out” at 18, unless they were causing issues.

There is a social expectation that you leave home at some period from 18-22. A lot of us feel that. Men especially feel it, though ironically they are less likely to own an apartment than women. Maybe there is a connection. Not sure. However, it has not always been an American custom, and many parents provide housing for their children well into adulthood. Generally you’ll be viewed as a crummy parent if you do kick 18 year olds out. Its virtually impossible for an 18 year to live on their own and not be in abject poverty. Whats more common is a work/school requirement, and maybe a small rent (especially for those not in school), though in my experience parents will often only charge rent if they’re broke or if the Lana Del Rey An American Singer T-Shirt Additionally,I will love this child is not going to school. I’ve also known parents to save rent and give it back when a child moves out, though thats less common. So unless your kid is mixed up in serious shit (drugs, crime, gangs, ect), or if the kid outright refuses to go to school or work, at which point a reality check is needed, most people stay with their parents for a few years or in-between college semesters.
