You need to establish what the LaMelo Ball American professional basketball player for the Charlotte Hornets T-Shirt so you should to go to store and get this company policy is for handling cash and then ask them to explain the note on your file. I thought refunds had to be processed in the same tender type as the sale? So bought with cash you get cash back and with card it’s refunded to the same card number. So unless the customer used counterfeit notes, it shouldn’t be money laundering. The store manager of the other store is probably giving yours grief because they may have had their target destroyed by a big refund and lost their bonus. Nope, getting cash back for cash in would be the whole point. Layering, placement, integration. That’s the money laundering cycle. Laundering, literally washing money, through legitimate systems to give it legitimate sourcing. Now, if this is indeed money laundering then it is hilariously basic and a shortcut to getting caught…but not all criminals are smart and not all money mules know what they are doing; they just do as they’re told.

For example, if you sell loads of drugs you can’t just bank the LaMelo Ball American professional basketball player for the Charlotte Hornets T-Shirt so you should to go to store and get this cash, you set up a fake business, run the money through that, maybe pay a bit of tax on it, but end up with legitimately earned money (in the eyes of HMRC/IRS) Well, it could easily be either a simple change of notes or a bigger laundering operation (bear in mind that if this were a mule it would in likelihood just be one point in a chain of transactions), but as I say, that’s not to say it’s sophisticated. Although even if this were just one layer with nothing else beyond it, it wouldn’t be the stupidest thing I’ve ever seen. The point of money laundering is to get proceeds of crime into the financial system, cash in and cash out does nothing for laundering at all. the only exception could be if it is a super small operation and the criminal “mastermind” behind this think that s/he needs to do this for whatever reason. In any event a one off deposit of £300 isn’t going to raise any eyebrows. Could simply say it’s a gift. Cash in and trying to get it refunded into a bank account could work but most retail stores would not do this (refunds are in the form that the money was taken). but done a a larger scale (i.e. multiple mules doing the same thing all over the place would likely raise eyebrows if all going into the same account. Therefore they would likely have to use multiple accounts and then they have a headache of how to combine all those accounts into one servicable one.
