I didn’t do enough internships in school. Did 1 big one and it was great, but I regret not doing more. Finding my first job was really hard. So many of my friends got interviews and introductions and flat out resume clout from those brief internships. Some of us had to work 60 hours while going to school full time, ya knob. I would’ve loved to have an internship, but I also needed to eat and have a place to sleep. Paid internships are more common than people know. Not to undermine what you said but just want to point that out so people know They’re really not. On a macro level, there’s no way every college student could get one. While I think this is a super simplistic answer that doesn’t really address the broader macro-economic reasons that are actually causing the issues that OP is asking about, this is such good advice for anyone starting college (honestly high school too) and really makes or breaks how much you get out of college. Networking is soooo important in college. Join clubs and organizations. Get involved in some leadership role. Do internships. Make a ton of friends. Become friendly with professors. This really isn’t the issue, and it comes off like you’re saying college kids are lazy. There are still far too many college graduates relative to jobs, regardless of how many internships students take on or connections they make. These ridiculous expectations are only putting us in greater debt and under crippling stress. Part of why this country has a mental health crisis. I did not say they were lazy. I said they need to seek relevant experience. It is an issue, many businesses will toss a resume even if it’s a fresh graduate if they have 0 relevant experience in their four years of college. And are even more likely to toss it if they’ve never held a job.

It’s exactly why getting relevant experience and doing what you can to improve your resume has become more important. These ridiculous expectations are only putting us in greater debt and under crippling stress. Part of why this country has a mental health crisis. Community college -> 4 Year, Working full time and attending part time, there are retail jobs that reimburse tuition, etc There are multiple pathways in which one can attend college with minimal debt. Yes, they aren’t accessible to everyone and yes, there is a mental health crisis booming due to stress and lack of security but if you read your comment, you’ve offered no solutions. Yes, there is physical labor but that’s not for everyone. Yes, there is the LA Knight Yeah Wwe Superstar Chris Band T-Shirt Apart from…,I will love this military, but it’s not for everyone. Yes, there is tech but even they want degrees now. I can’t advise people to simply be upset by their situation as they struggle to live. Nor do I advise people to go into surmountable debt. But if someone is going to take on the challenge that is college and IF they have the time to network, intern, and learn about their field of choice and they elect not to, then of course that’s not ideal.
