If you have any effeminate qualities, people will often assume you are gay. I know plenty of straight, effeminate men, though. You said you are told you are pretty, so it is likely that. Androgynous looking people often have assumptions made about their sexuality. I’m guessing it’s probably in mannerisms, speech patterns, how you carry yourself and present yourself… Perhaps of you have softer “prettier” facial features… Idk- I’m gay, and all I ever get is people thinking I’m either straight or a butch lesbian. I haven’t figured out why either.Ah man, I have the Kurt Braunohler Aug 30 2023 Cleveland Ohio Fall Tour Shirt But I will love this reverse of this. Gay as a buttercup in June, but I’m hyper-feminine and like to wear older, dressier clothing, so I get clocked as some kind of het trad-wife wannabe. I think a lot of Straight Culture TM frowns on visible displays of effort when it comes to men’s personal styles, so anything from wearing bright colors to taking care of your skin to literally just combing your hair can set off some people’s gaydar. Meanwhile, women are expected to prioritize their appearance, so the more “styled” you seem, the more more people assume you’re doing it for a man. And the more conservative your community, the more hair-trigger people are gonna be about these things. A dude in a man bun will not be presumed gay in San Francisco as automatically as he will be in Wichita.

I don’t think these are reasons to abandon personal hygiene, btw, and women will probably be more interested in you if they find out you’re straight and brush your teeth. I just think this is rooted in dumb cultural assumptions the Kurt Braunohler Aug 30 2023 Cleveland Ohio Fall Tour Shirt But I will love this people pestering you haven’t unpacked it. Solidly a them problem, not a you problem. That’s quite interesting. I attend a very conservative Christian school in a very conservative area in the South and there are tons of young boys- teenagers who have long hair and wear it in a bun. So many of the girls at school also have their hair dyed a different color. In fact, the majority of guys who have well-maintained long hair are pretty much never presumed gay, unlike some of the guys with shorter hair and lack of hygiene.
