Instead of telling her you need to vent, how about you tell her you just want her to listen and not offer any advice. The fixer mentality is often engrained in us from a young age. Telling her you don’t need a solution will help her turn it off. I think it’s unfair to complain about something that has a concrete and necessary solution, and to then get frustrated when she takes on the solution. I feel like venting is best reserved for things that neither you nor the listener have immediate control over. At what point after you’re done venting about laundry is she allowed to start doing laundry? The laundry has to get done, and it’s now at the top of her emotional awareness list. Complaining about it to her and then telling her she shouldn’t do anything about it is really frustrating for her ADHD.

I’m guilty of doing this myself. One thing that helps is making sure she knows that whatever the Kevin Garnett KG he’s on fire Psychedelic meme Minnesota Timberwolves shirt in other words I will buy this problem, it’s not her fault and you’re not upset at her. Also communicating that the problem isn’t the laundry — but the emotional feelings you have is the issue, you just need time to get over it and it can’t be rushed. When my wife is venting, I tend to feel like it’s my fault, she’s upset at me, and I feel fixing the problem will make her not upset at at me. However, she just wants to vent and take her time recovering. I forgot to mention, when my wife gets on the more upset side, the emotions tend to rub off on me as well, and I get secondhand emotions. Since they’re not my own to begin with, it tends to be annoying and unpleasant — perhaps the root cause of why I default to fix it mode so I can stop feeling the second hand emotions. What I’ve found to help is to give my wife some empathy about the way she’s feeling & comfort — and then I give her some space on her own to feel better. I can sometimes be too comforting to solve the problem of her being sad — but then it goes back to to trying to fix the problem, and it comes across as patronizing.
