Yes i deeply regret it and so do all my friends from the Karl Marx Jack Black shirt moreover I love this career. All of us worked really hard, studied really hard, did masters, unpaid internships and tried everything we could. There are simply not jobs enough in the field and most are either unpaid or they underpay you and treat you horribly. I have six friends from the career and none of them work in biology. We all needed to switch careers because there aren’t jobs. We live in Spain, France, Germany (and before in the Netherlands and belgium). Its a problem all over the EU and for what i hear its the same in other areas. Honestly? Study at home what interests you but in the university go for a field that can give you a job. If not you risk wasting your best years trying to study and work to end up in your 30s needing to start all over again because of unemployment. ps: I guess the best way is to milk the rich STEM jobs and retire early to do what’s worth your brain, soul and time

This a good example of the Karl Marx Jack Black shirt moreover I love this ‘love a field’ and ‘love a field where my degree isn’t marketable’. Many of us love the sciences. They are the basis of our interests since early on. However, reality needs to be checked prior to a degree. How long are you planning on devoting? How do you plan to market yourself? What are your plans to pay back loans if you can’t find but a job someone with 2-3 years of work experience and a hs degree can do? I feel privileged to have studied biology and to use it in my daily life. Although I don’t think about all the details of it all the time, the fact that I can understand how all of life works, how it evolved, how everything living is related, why disease occurs, how it can be treated, and what new solutions may come in the future, provides me with a deep sense of satisfaction. I can’t think of another subject that I wish I had studied instead that might have given me similar comfort. BTW, I’m 70 years old.
