Here the business gets a tax write off from your donation to charity. If you just save that money and donate it to the charity of your choosing you get the tax write off. I work in a pub and any transaction over £20 prompts 0.25p for charity and I frequently press cancel just to avoid the point of explaining what it is, worst thing is if they press yes they then have to press yes again which confuses a lot of people. Tesco made £2.5B profit last year. Annoys me any company making so much has the Kansas girl i am who i am your approval needed lip shirt and by the same token and balls to ask their customers to donate money. Similar to when celebs fundraise but their only contribution is a reduced fee to present something, and no actual money out of their pocket. Our local has a ‘community champion’ who often runs events and drives for causes and there’s always a board up saying thanks & that together ‘we have raised ££££’. A few years ago my Tesco ran some charity promotion where you got a blue token to put in one of three tall perspex boxes after checkout, each box belonging to a charity. Needless to say the box for the local football club was almost full, the box for Downs Syndrome children not so much. I can just imagine the glee in the Tesco boardroom when they came up with the idea of pitching one charity against each other.
