It does tho, for the same reason everything goes bad. There’s all kinds of bacteria and mold spores always floating around waiting to land somewhere hospitable, say standing water I leave water out in a regular glass on my nightstand. If too much dust is on top I won’t drink it but after 3 days, I’ll change it. Been doing this 20+ years and never had a problem. I sometimes fall asleep and accidentally leave a glass of milk or beer overnight and drink it the next morning… I have three cats who like to wash their paws in any open water source. If a glass of water leaves my line of sight, I don’t drink it. Those bastards are ninjas. glass of water on the night stand for first thing in the morning other then that, who the hell is just leaving glasses of water around. like if im thirsty im gonna drink my fill and then be done Sometimes I fill up a cola bottle with water at my desk, and when I find it a few days later, I pretend I’m one of those castaways treating it like fluid gold. Since I have two adventurous cats.. if I lost sight of my glass I’m getting a new glass. Before that.. half a day because of everything that sticks to the water from the air

Technically once you drink from something you’ve exposed it to bacteria from your mouth that could grow and contaminate the water which doesn’t have a mechanism to protect it from infection like your body does. However I think this is pretty unlikely unless it’s been really hot and humid. More likely an exposed glass of water will collect imperceptible amounts of air pollution and dust, but you’ll probably be totally fine to drink it anyway.
