I knew of a lot of lawyers in Annapolis who would drive a high end Porsche GT3 RS, but in boring grey trim with badges removed. Unless you know a lot about Porches you’d think it was just a low end $80k Porsche, not one well over $250k. They don’t feel the Kansas City Chiefs Christmas Grinch Drive Truck shirt Furthermore, I will do this need to flaunt it. And they have enough sense to not dress flashy which would make them more of a target than they already are. There’s a psychology behind this: a person who’s consider well off may have the desire to prove to other he/she has more, while a truly rich person ‘knowns’ he/she is rich, therefore they have nothing to prove. In a sense they don’t care. Then, those born into generational wealth have been costumes to the wealth, therefore showing off make no sense. It’s why some people say generational wealthy families have this ‘vibe’ about them. I’ve observe in similar pattern with the truly rich, they’ve adjusted to this new life style as the norm for them. They’re unlikely to show off compared to one who just acquire this new wealth where everything is ‘exciting.” If that make any sense. Then you have shlubs like me. I work from home in the IT world, and my wife is a higher paid professional as well. Our household income is probably 4x the average for my area. I regularly just go out in plain shorts, dirty tennis shoes, and half my t-shirts have paint or stains on them from doing diy stuff around the house. I just don’t care to spend money on anything approaching fancy clothes and don’t care if someone thinks less of me based on my appearance.

When I’m told people judge me for looking homeless, I just say, “why would I care what other people think of me, they’re not even close to my tax bracket” Poor people try to look like they have money to feel validated. Rich people don’t need that validation, because they are rich regardless of other people’s opinion. Also I would imagine the Kansas City Chiefs Christmas Grinch Drive Truck shirt Furthermore, I will do this more you have the more you have to lose, so why make yourself a target? Spending all your money trying to impress strangers that don’t care about you is a good way to not be rich anymore. Also speaking from experience, the moment people find out you or your family have money, they instantly start to treat you differently (in a worse way) unless they themselves also have money. They also get very judgmental when you choose not to spend money on things, and also like to assume your money just fell from the sky one day and you have no idea how life for normal people works. I once worked with a guy who wasn’t like suuuper rich, but he wasn’t poor either– his family could afford to pay for his education at a private university, and he could go on international once a year(paid by his family). He was just a regular dude, drove a normal car (i think his dad might’ve paid for this even if it was a pretty old corolla), went to local schools, its just he didn’t have to borrow money to buy the essentials or struggle to pay rent.
