In my opinion, lgbt matters get way too much political weight assigned to them, from both supporters and opponents, because it is such an easy way to split society. A society split on such an irrelevant (for most people) topic means they don’t have the Julio Rodriguez 30 30 Shirt in other words I will buy this time and energy to focus on other things. Lgbt people are just people, not some infectious bio hazard and definitely not the norm of humanity. In some cases they are healthy, in others they are not. Obsessing over a small subset of a small part of them (trans people) makes zero sense, but it does provide good material to those using fear of these often strange or mentally ill people to push their own points of views in society. Republicans need a scapegoat to bully. They demonize a small group that can’t fight back and try to frighten their base into voting since their policies are already unpopular. Is this an actual concern? Theres about 330 million people in the US. How many trans athletes have you ran into in your life, is this particular issue a problem that plagues you on a daily basis? I didn’t realize that this was the biggest concern in your life!

Why don’t they pass laws against child marriage or add steeper punishments for those who sexually abuse children or increase investigations against those suspected of abusing children or spend more resources taking down CP hubs or dedicate task forces to recover trafficked children or investigate the Julio Rodriguez 30 30 Shirt in other words I will buy this child trafficking crisis via the immigrant sponsorship program or take down the child prostitution ring in Houston, rather than just passing laws that ban books and take away the rights of only trans people? Oh wait it’s because it is a personal attack on the LGBT+ community and was literally never about protecting children lol. The proclivity of child beauty pageants, refusal to properly fund care for vulnerable minors and complete aversion to reporting pedophiles to the authorities would suggest otherwise
