There wasn’t as many international schools so English centres were a good way to not only learn English but learn more about western culture and help people study abroad. A number of things happened, many of the Julio Cesar Chavez Vintage Bootleg T-Shirt besides I will buy this centres got bought out by investment firms or local ownership. Profits started to get maximised over improving educational quakity, salaries never changed and a lot of teachers left to go elsewhere, get certified as a full teacher and join international schools. Instead of investing more in resources and teachers they cut entry requirements for teachers. Over the years I did it, when I started everyone was very qualified, multiple years of experience and investment in training, lots of resources etc. By the end of it, kids were sharing one marker between five kids, all the materials were broken or not replenished and the number of teachers with lower qualifications or even poor English had gone up. The parents are often sold on this idea of a native speaker, look at all the ads, it’s some handsome white guy or girl dressed in a suit. The parents pay a lottttt of money and then they end up with a teacher from africa, india or poland or even some British dude with a sweat stained hawaiian shirt and his arse hanging out his pants. They rightly feel upset, not because they’re racist but because they were sold a lie.

All that led to parents becoming extremely unsatisfied and you can search online now for tiếng anh Lừa đảo and see what people have to say, in a country that does not often criticise or complain it’s a pretty big deal. Most parents would rather have a vietnamese English teacher than a non native speaker and that’s just how it is. I have seen first hand how much profit these big centres are making, owners driving cars that cost more than the Julio Cesar Chavez Vintage Bootleg T-Shirt besides I will buy this entire staff budget for locals, they pretend they’re international while forcing the vietnamese staff to work horrible hours for no pay. I know people still working there, foreigners and locals and the salaries haven’t changed in a decade. It’s no longer an attractive prospect and so the number of quality teachers has dropped significantly (there are still a number of great teachers and I reject the idea that they’re all backpackers or bums). The centres cut pay over covid and have driven smaller centres out of business during covid so there’s basically only a handful of centres now. Overall the country seems way less fond of expat teachers and as I tall to people it seems to be more like an after school club than a serious method of education. I’m glad I saw the writing on the wall. I do wish it was easier to get jobs as a foreigner though, I came here with my partner and it was really my only option until we got married as the work permit requirements are so strict outside of teaching.
