I was so fascinated when I walked through a hem in Binh Tanh the Josh Anderson Canadian professional ice hockey winger for the Montreal Canadiens T-Shirt it is in the first place but first time. I was not observing life from a distance, I was inside their Vietnamese life. It felt uncomfortable to western me, yet the inhabitants were friendly or simply took my “intrusion “ as normal. The last four years I’ve been living with my Viet wife’s family in D8, with few skinny houses as nice as the ones in the video. Not every house is open, some have front yards, no front room is air conditioned, temps never go into the 70s. I never stopped getting stared at, I don’t mind the attention. So I can understand how tourists would want to film to share that experience. In reality, besides around D1 tourist streets, I have never come across a tourist in a hem. Too bad, many would also be fascinated and touched. Invasion of privacy? Protect the fragile local’s feelings? Jeez. Vietnamese don’t need white knights. Tourists are jerks and do that everywhere in the world. So, no one in the comments has taken furtive photos? Adapt to a world where everyone takes pix of you everyday, soon electronic glasses, 3d hats and drone swarms will be normal.

If you do that you just a piece of shit whidout respect. Just still at your home country if you act like that . It is fucking rude to do that. I feel disturbed and angry if someone does filming without asking for my consent. Utterly disrespectful. Some things require common sense. Not everything needs to be filmed. I am OK with that, as long as I am wearing proper clothes. If I don’t want filming, I will close the windows and door. My respectful side is telling me, don’t be an ass and just film food stalls or things that are focused on drawing your attention on purpose. When I visited, I barely used my phone with photos besides tourist attractions or when I found some killer food at a random stall and took a photo to remember the place. I was too busy enjoying talking to locals and taking in the views to worry about all that. I draw the line at filming people’s homes. My brother did film our father’s old home where he grew up though a while back. That was the only exception. Otherwise, I would personally never advertently film a stranger’s home. This question should be asked to the foreigner who made this video. If they do this in their own country they’ll get shot.
