Embryos are stored in liquid nitrogen. The fancy tanks and everything? Well…. To give you some perspective, I work in fertility. We have a gene bank that was redone recently. Cost was $12 million to redo two rooms. There are full time technicians on call in case of power outages. There are five nitrogen tanks that you could literally sit in with top of the Joostice Justice pour Joost Klein shirt so you should to go to store and get this line electric monitoring, plus about fifteen smaller ones, ten -80C freezers, and a specialized company comes every Thursday to refresh the nitrogen supplies. I am very low down on the ladder but annual costs of operation? Hundreds of thousands. Easy. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was in the millions Oh EASILY. Ok to put into perspective how many embryos can be frozen, you can stick anywhere from three to ten embryos in a single straw to freeze. A straw is thinner than a drinking straw, probably ~1 mm thick, and holds 250 uL. You then stick the straws in a cane. A cane can hold 15 or so straws if you pack them in. The canes are then loaded into a canister, which can hold about 20 canes. In the smaller tanks, there are six canisters per tank. So in ONE small tank, you can theoretically fit 18,000 embryos. We have fifteen of these tanks.

Honestly, the Joostice Justice pour Joost Klein shirt so you should to go to store and get this biggest cost is acquiring the freezers. I know a single -80C freezer is about $30k. Once you have the equipment, is it really that much more money to add maintaining one or two more tanks? Not sure, but highly doubt it The biggest issue is probably producing these embryos. IVF is not easy. In one round, a woman may only produce 5-8 eggs. Not all of these are gonna be fertilized. The ones that do get fertilized, not all of them will develop properly to the 8 cell stage, which is optimal for freezing. So maybe 3 or 4 will make it to this stage. The IVF hormones also completely wreak havoc on a woman’s body. So it will take a LONG time to get up to that many embryos or you will need a lot of women, but it is absolutely possible over the long run
