I’m from Manchester but lived in Surrey for University. On the Join The Helloween Revolution Shirt and by the same token and holidays I would travel via a national express coach as it was far cheaper than trains. One of the get off points for a mini break or changeover was Birmingham. All I can say from my multiple hourly stays in Birmingham town centre, at various times in the day, is that it raised my appreciation of Manchester City centre a hell of a lot. I’m from notts but have run several pubs in Birmingham, I grew up in the shottingjam era, and still say Birmingham is a bigger sh!thole. Always trouble, far more likely to get into a fight with some bellend (although less likely to be stabbed or killed), not ran a pleasant normal pub in 5 (over several areas) Lived in UK the majority of my life, and as soon as someone says Birmingham. I immediately imagine someone saying Biiiiirmingum in that god awful, has to be the worst accent in the world, drawl. Stood in a city centre that is grey and boring and depressing and just a concrete metropolis of neglect and broken dreams. With nothing to do there, its not really recognised for anything other than the nauseating accent and being an uninteresting zone of despair where the whole city is hyper-allergic to neon lights, music and fun. IMHO.

Side note: I have never ever met, or seen on TV, someone with a thick Birmingin’ Accent that one would consider intellectual or well educated. Every single one I have ever personally met has been thick as pigshit. Maybe its been the Join The Helloween Revolution Shirt and by the same token and luck of the draw but…unlikely. I mean name one interesting/successful/intelligent person you know of from Birmingham. You have 5 seconds. If you can’t do it, save your whiteknight/dont be a douche replies because you know I’m right. I travel around the UK extensively for my job and of all the major UK cities I have visited Birmingham is (IMO) the absolute worst. Can’t put my finger on why specifically, but I can normally find some redeeming feature of any place i end up in and in Birmingham I found none.
