i personally believe you can make drunken mistakes without it being rape and even regret those mistakes as long as neither party was predatory in getting there. I just think it’s a stupid poster failing at teaching consent. It’s a SEVENTEEN YEAR OLD POSTER that you’re reposting as if it’s current and relevant In real life? Neither have I. But on Reddit, yes. I remember getting downvoted to hell and back for saying a lot of the Joey Votto The Viking Canadian professional baseball first baseman T-Shirt But I will love this things being said in this comment section. People would literally explain that if they’re both drunk it’s the man’s fault because he had to get an erection. Even if they’re both consenting, he’s a rapist because men are supposed to be more responsible and superior. Like, the “feminists” would go full on “silly drunk girls can’t be responsible for their decisions” and in the same breath say “but drunk men (are so superior) they should be accountable for both theirs and the woman’s decisions” like it’s a complete opposite of actual feminism and equal rights. I never understood it and I still don’t. But I guess the takeaway was that you need to teach men how to protect themselves against people like this. They may be hypocritical idiots, but they can ruin your life. If one person is sloppy, fall-over drunk, and the other is sober or at least together and coherent, I think that qualifies as rape. If both people are similarly drunk, it’s just drunk sex. And it doesn’t matter which gender you are or the other is if you’re sober/with it and the other is nearly passing out and you decide to have sex. Men can be raped. Rape is not only penis in vagina, just like sex isn’t only penis in vagina. Women can rape other women, men can rape other men, and women can rape men. Most rapes are men against women, yes. But society needs to take all rape seriously.

The internet, like the Joey Votto The Viking Canadian professional baseball first baseman T-Shirt But I will love this law, isnt great at nuance. The underlying assumption is that as the guy, you have to have some faculties left to do a sex, while the woman could be passed out drunk, and then it’s very obviously a rape. But since a double standard has been spotted we now have to assume they’re both the same level of drunk, ie not very drunk and still able to walk a line, so now it’s really hard to say and the least shit option really is to believe the victim. My college had me do an online program thing to live on campus a few years back that had a scenario like this in it, only it specific that both were blackout drunk and couldn’t remember having sex, but they woke up naked and sharing a bed and it was obvious that each had had sex that night. The “correct” answer for the result of the situation was that he had raped her.
