So it kind of makes sense that he’d be on the older side. And I will note, that plenty of younger than 70 candidates ran in 2020, but 90% of the primary vote went to oldsters. The Senate Majority Leader is 73, the Senate Minority Leader is 82. That’s old, but the Senate skews older as the terms are 6 years.

Welp, I’m not saying the Joey Gase American professional stock car racing driver T-Shirt it is in the first place but current people running the government ARE wiser or smarter but just by virtue of being on the earth longer there is absolutely a greater likelihood to know more than a younger person. Trump has a cult of personality that dominates the GOP base. Everyone who doesn’t like Trump has no choice but to unite around one alternative candidate because not doing so will simply risk putting Trump back in power. And because incumbency gets special preference, Biden is the candidate people have to unite around. The Democrats wanted to avoid a primary that would weaken Joe’s ability to fight Trump. Any third party candidate is more likely to steal votes from Biden than Trump – maybe RFK Jr. can pick off a few antivaxxers who think Trump is too liberal on vaccines, but for the most part any third party challenge (Liz Cheney? Joe Manchin?) will just hurt Joe and re-crown Trump. If we did not have a First Past the Post system where we only get one vote, as many alternative candidates as want to run could enter without causing a spoiler effect. We could vote for (or rank) all the candidates we support or at least don’t oppose and we wouldn’t need to rely on whoever the parties have settled for as their nominee.
