Also, please consider keeping your current cats indoors-only. Unrestricted access to the Joe Montana Quot The Goat Quot shirt it is in the first place but outdoors exposes cats to many dangers, including being injured by vehicles, loose dogs, other cats, wild animals, even cruel people, as well as contracting parasites, disease or consuming poison. Cats are fierce when they need to be, and their claws are sharp, but they cannot fight off a coyote. Outdoor cats, on average, live drastically shorter lives than indoor-only cats. Outdoor cats have an average life expectancy of 3-12 years (depending on how long they are outdoors and whether they live in an urban or rural environment), whilst indoor-only cats have an average life expectancy of 15-20 years. As well as getting themselves killed, outdoor cats also kill a lot. Cats are obligate carnivores and natural hunters. When given the opportunity to, they will hunt a lot. This is not only gross for you as the owner (who will inevitably have to be the one finding and throwing out decapitated small animal corpses), but it is also a huge threat to biodiversity and the environment. As seen in the infographic linked above (and here), cats are responsible for the deaths of many small animals, and according to recent research, around 58.2% of these deaths are of native species. Cats have contributed to the extinction of many native species, which harms biodiversity and the ecosystem, which can greatly harm the environment and eventually, our lives. Many argue that the damage outdoor cats cause to themselves and the environment is worth it for their freedom and mental wellbeing. However, it has been found that indoor-only cats can live just as fulfilling, happy lives as outdoor cats as long as they are provided with enough enrichment. For cats who are really keen on going outside (or if you just want them to enjoy the fresh air), the following are good options: A catio, walks on a harness and leash, or cat-proof fencing. Cats are fully domesticated companion animals. There is no reason to let them outdoors unrestricted/uncontrolled, and the risks greatly outweigh any benefits.

Some people declaw for medical reasons. I would never recommend an elderly person on blood thinners have a fully clawed cat. Ever seen what a simple cat scratch looks like when a person doesn’t clot? Personally, I adopt declawed cats because I’m allergic to cat scratches. Neither declawed cat I’ve owned had/has long term negative effects from declawing. One was a biter, one is not but the Joe Montana Quot The Goat Quot shirt it is in the first place but one that was a biter wasn’t socialized with a litter so she was all the hallmarks of single kitten syndrome and already was a biter before she was declawed. I’ve also had a fully clawed cat who was a biter just because he was an a$$hole and liked to remind people he was really a tiger. He used his claws to torture small woodland creatures for hours before he killed them… or got bored and left them to die. He really was an a$$hole.
