You made the Joc Pederson We Are Those Mf’ers Atlanta shirt in other words I will buy this right call. All the money and benefits in the world can’t compensate for a bad manager. You spend most of your waking hours at work. Life is too short for those hours to be spent in misery. I once actively torpedo’s an interview because the person who would have been my supervisor and the department head… well, she said “You do the work any and all times we call you” and I was saying “I have two small kids, you want me to be absent?” Yeah, no way, lady. It was not an on-call position. I turned down way better health insurance, retirement, and a 22k/annual raise over that. We would have hated each other. 87 more repliesI would have done the same, but I wouldn’t have regretted it. Having a manager I like is a major requirement of being successful at the job. If I don’t like the manager, I won’t last long there, either because they will decide to get rid of me or because I will decide I want to be away from them, or both.

What would I have done? Depends on the Joc Pederson We Are Those Mf’ers Atlanta shirt in other words I will buy this situation. If I needed a job/was desperate, I’d take the job (and that’s how I’m in my current job now, lol). If I’m NOT desperate, then I’d respect myself enough to pass (which I have done previously). It sucks that everything else was amazing, but you passed for a valid reason (and it was also the same reason I passed on a job years ago with no regrets – ended up finding a place where I gelled well/decently with my direct supervisor and I liked it there). Your peace of mind and sanity are worth WAY more than anything that job would have offered you. You made the right choice. You don’t work for a company, you work for your manager – you made the right decision, to trust your instincts. There are lots of opportunities out there!
