39f here literally facing this dilemma right now. I married for the Jelly roll i’m only one drink away from the devil skeleton hand shirt it is in the first place but first time late in life (a year ago). I always thought I wanted children, never thought I’d find myself at this age looking to start. My husband and I have been trying to conceive for the last 10 months, but not super aggressively. The last month or so, I’ve really gone back and forth. Part of me feels like I’ll regret never having the chance to be a mother. But the other part of me feels like I’m already almost 40, a newlywed and I kind of just want to enjoy time with my husband and travel. I feel robbed in a sense by getting married so late because I’m forced to make this decision so early in marriage because my biological clock is ticking. Reality is if I want a child, it basically has to be now. That’s alot of pressure on us both. My husband says he’s okay either way, and I always said I was too, but I’m growing even more conflicted each day.

However, we’re definitely left out sometimes when “family” centered events happen and all my friends go and forget to invite my wife and me. Their children become close friends with other children and the adults have less time to hang out that doesn’t involve the kids coming along, so obviously that means they are going to prioritize hanging out with other couples with children that their offspring are friends with. Example: Halloween they all went trunk or treating several times, obviously not going to invite the couple without kids along. It sucks but I mitigate it with new hobbies they don’t have time or energy to join. So the short answer is that I regret it sometimes. Not enough to change my decision but enough to have to change some other choices. (38M)
