Me- “…they do? Ohhh they cook alot of fried chicken?! That’s a lot of work… but i guess if you grew up doing it it wouldn’t be abnormal” Me- as I’m holding a fried chicken leg “right. Ok. So. We’re eating fried chicken though. Are we in on that joke or something? I still don’t get it…. It’s probably something along the Jelly Ro Rapper American Musician shirt it is in the first place but line of chicken being a cheaper food source OR easier to raise why back when. Poor black people and poor white people probably BOTH ate chicken yet ANYTHING black people did was considered dirty and less than. Watermelon too was easier and more plentiful to farm, and once again even if dirt poor whites did it, the powers that be would still attack ANYTHING black people did as a “them” thing.

Jelly Ro Rapper American Musician shirt, hoodie, tank top, sweater and long sleeve t-shirt

Even the Jelly Ro Rapper American Musician shirt it is in the first place but history of chicken wings, well before it became a sports snack it was seen as the cheapest and least desired part of the bird abs people could go to a butcher and get whole buckets cheap. Due to how cheap it was for poor black people to raise chickens and farm Watermelon those became the things to attack them over even though poor whites did the same. Not sure about the fried chicken thing, but free blacks grew watermelon because 1) it grows well in the climate 2) it can be sold as a cash crop 3) it’s a welcome refreshment when you’ve been bustin’ your ass all day in a hot field. I guess racists can’t help but be threatened when the people they hate try to improve their lives and be successful . It’s why they burned down Black Wall Street. I believe the stereotype comes from The Birth of a Nation. Racist film about the formation of the KKK. Watermelon and fried chicken were pictured there as ‘black’ food since you ate them with your hands which made it ‘dirty’ or ‘low’ in that you don’t have the manners or refinement enough to be worth of respect.
