Answer: A large part of it is currently happening because of the Jason Aldean, Kid Rock and Oliver Anthony You Can’t Cancel America Tour Shirt and by the same token and Bud Lite picking Dylan Mulvaney as their spokesperson. The person who was in charge of the campaign thought it would be a good idea to attract new demographic of beer drinkers to the brand. Turned out that the majority of the beer’s drinkers didn’t fall under that demographic, and the campaign crashed and burned, causing the company to lose a lot of money and loyal customers. The second brand who decided to run another unique campaign was Coors Lite, which tried to send the message that women in beer commercials are being exploited, and they were asking their customers to donate their sexist promotional pieces like posters to use to generate compost for women’s companies who grow products used for beer. This backfired as well. It seemed like the company was being hypocritical, because they’re the ones who were exploiting women in their ads, and suddenly they’re blaming some invisible boogeyman for doing it instead of giving a formal apology. Their customers didn’t like that either, so Coorse Lite had to quickly pull their campaign off the internet. Keep in mind that this campaign was released back in March of 2023, about two months before Bud Light’s, and it surfaced recently with the Bug Light’s controversy.

The third company was Target, who was selling Pride-themed clothing, including swimwear in their stores. Since the Jason Aldean, Kid Rock and Oliver Anthony You Can’t Cancel America Tour Shirt and by the same token and ball was already rolling, people decided to jump on Target as well, and began to boycott them. I think there was also some controversy which involved one of the designers involved in this campaign promoting devil-themed products, but I’m not 100% sure of this one (maybe someone else can fill this part in?). Target ended up moving the clothing away from the main displays, and even pulled some of the products from the shelves. Now it’s June, and many of the big corporations are afraid to put pride-themed avatars in their social media profiles, which caused many people to accuse them of using pride-themed social media profiles in order to drive up sales, and not actual support the community.
